January at Deep Portage

It's a good thing to have snow....especially when the mercury really drops. The 2 feet of powder covering Deep Portage no doubt helped many animals survive the frigid temps, and it kept spirits high for snowshoeing and XC-skiing. January 12-16 saw temps of -18, -29, -21, -26, and -28, respectively. Ladies and Gentlemen, that is a cold snap. Students from Garfield Elementary (Brainerd) and Willow Lane Elementary (White Bear Lake) braved the icy weather, and didn't miss a beat. This week, Jan. 18-24, we have groups in from Menahga, Rockford, and Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted. Pictured below is the Rockford student council group snowshoeing in the south bog, and a happy group from Menahga on departure day. Best wishes for the New Year!
